uhuru choir

Since 2019, under the direction of Esperance Kouka, a local musician from West Africa, the choir has been performing all over Oregon. Uhuru is made up of youth and adults from Africa who arrived in Salem as refugees. In the camps in which they grew up, participation in church choirs was an extremely valued activity. Uhuru gives them the opportunity to stay connected to the joy and identity of their lives in Africa and it gives our Oregon community a taste of their vibrant culture.
